Think of it: 100 miles of trail along the historic Hennepin Canal in the heart of Illinois for a flat and fast, point-to-point ultra-marathon! The inaugural race to be run along the Hennepin Canal in Northwest Illinois will travel through Whiteside, Bureau, and Henry counties. The 100 mile solo and 100 mile relay will begin in Sterling, Illinois, and end in Colona, Illinois, at Timbrook Field. The 50 mile ultra will begin in Sterling, Illinois, and end at Lock 17 in Wyanet, Illinois. Camping is available at the 50 mile finish line, Lock 17. Transportation from the finish line to the start line for both races will be provided race morning. The Hennepin Hundred & 50 mile race is a 2015 Trail Runner Magazine Trophy Series race. It features 100 and 50 miles solo entries and a five-person relay team entry. The surface is pressed rock, asphalt, and dirt. A 30-hour cutoff applies for the 100 mile race. The 50 mile race has a 13 hour time limit. There are aid stations every three to seven miles. Some aid stations will be manned with nutrition and drinks; others will be unmanned with water and sport drinks. There will be plenty of places along the course for crews to see your runners. A belt buckle will be given to all 100 miles finishers. Sub 24 hour finishers will get a special belt buckle. 50 mile entrants and 100 mile relay entrants will receive a finisher medal. An artist-made trophy will go to first overall male and female winners. The age group awards will be three deep, with 10-year age spans.
